Thanks for your input, Sarah. Your experience sounds like mine. The experience of self-publishing was exhilarating for me as well. I reveled in the making the design choices and hiring an artist to design the covert art I had in mind - two girlfriends chatting, being honest about motherhood. For the authors who prefer not to be, for whatever reason, as involved with the details, independent publishing could be a viable option. The author owns the book AND gets all the royalties. Could be a win win.

This was interesting. I completely understand why someone wouldn't want to do all of the work that goes into self-publishing because it's a lot of work, but I personally enjoyed the process. I have enough people in my friend network (editors, artists, etc.) that I was able to pay them to do the work I needed someone else to do (like a thorough edit for every possible error) and I did the rest. There was something very satisfying about formatting and making it look the way I wanted it to look on the inside.
